Spay/Neuter

Louisiana Pet Friendly License Plates

Several years ago, the Humane Society of Louisiana drafted and passed legislation that created the Pet Overpopulation Advisory Council, the Pet Overpopulation Fund and the Pet Friendly license plate. A royalty fee of $25.00 is derived from the sale of each plate and is collected by the state. These funds are deposited into the Pet Overpopulation Fund, on a quarterly basis, where they are then distributed to qualified veterinary clinics and humane societies through grants once or twice a year, based on the availability of funds. The grants support low-cost spay/neuter programs. HSL remains active on the Council and holds a permanent seat as a voting member.
